ALL SAINTS SOS TEAM 2018-2019

The "Stomping out Stigma" group at All Saints works year-round to raise awareness of mental health and to challenge the stigma surrounding mental illness. Our mission is to create a culture where it's OK to talk about mental health.

For our March initiative, the All Saints SOS group decided to reach out to friends of people who might be struggling.  We all have mental health and need to take care of it.  Sometimes we don't have the strength to take care of ourselves, so we need our friends.  "Make the Choice to be their Voice" is the tag line for our "web of support" initiative.

FAMOUS PEOPLE BOARDS

Students in Kevin MacDonald's grade 7/8 class at St. Leo Catholic School in Brooklin created their own Famous People posters, modeled after the TAMI Famous People Boards used in the in-class program.

JuiceBarST. MARY'S JUICE BAR

The students of St. Mary Catholic School in Pickering were inspired to raise awareness for the burdens that are carried by others (discrimination and mental illness) through participating in a Walk of Faith. They decided to take it one step further by creating St. Mary's Juice Bar of Compassion! Read more to watch their video.

AllSaintsSOSVideoALL SAINTS STOMPING OUT STIGMA VIDEO

The All Saints Stomping Out Stigma group formed in 2008 during a conversation in a cab ride home from a Mental Health Summit at Ontario Shores put on by the TAMI Coalition. The four students and teacher who attended were so moved by the experience that they felt a responsibility to bring awareness back to their own school community. The group collected fellow students and teacher advisors to form an SOS group in their school. The primary goal of the SOS group is to create a greater awareness of mental health and to dispel the myths and misconceptions surrounding mental illness.
