A summit is a kind of meeting or conference where important people come together to talk about and make decisions about an important issue.  TAMI’s Stomping out Stigma (S.O.S.) Summit is a chance for youth to meet with other students, teachers and community members to talk about mental illness and how you can work together to stomp out stigma.  Not sure exactly what stigma is?  Check out our Stomping out Stigma Portal.

The SOS Summit has two different programs, one for intermediate students and one for secondary students.  Both summits offer representatives from 30 different schools (“student ambassadors”) a full day of brainstorming, activities and guest speakers.

Thinking about going to a summit?  Here’s what you can expect:

  • Student ambassadors and a staff member from 30 regional high schools or elementary schools
  • A full day of mental health education, experiential exercises and conversation
  • Safe space to identify and challenge myths and stereotypes about mental illness
  • Opportunity to hear from people with lived experience who tell their stories of living with a mental illness and the effects that stigma had on their recovery process
  • A forum for students to share their own experiences, strengths, insights and action plans in a non-judgmental and supportive environment
